Why you need a quality press kit

First and foremost, would you invest in a quality resume if you knew it would land you the job of your dreams?

I must say that I’m astonished that most public speakers that reach out to me do not possess a quality speaker sheet, one sheet or media/press kit… yes, this item has many names.

I personally like to call it a Media kit or an EPK (electronic press kit).

When I worked as a publicist for a well-known global business coach that charged $25k and higher, I was asked repeatedly for his media kit.  This would consist of 4-6 pages of bragging rights, so to speak.  Think of this as a way to convey your message across professionally instead of just sending a meeting planner to your website in hopes that they find your accolades successfully.

When a meeting planner is given a link to hunt for speaking talk points, they most likely will blow off and go to the next proposal.

I would like you to think of your Media Kit as your professional speaking resume. 

This is your time to shine, and to be blunt, I’m not referring to a simple word document with a few bullet points.

Be BOLD, let your BRAND shine through with fun graphics and sizzling talk titles.

Be DIFFERENT, be remembered!

Standing out will give you more chances to get hired.  If your brand is very vanilla, AKA bland, then they most likely will pass over your media kit without a second glance.

No different than putting your best foot forward with a polished resume when you’re applying for a coveted position.  You don’t want any spelling errors or run on sentences.  You DO want to invest in this project with the right person that has a graphic designer on hand that can match your website branding to your media kit.

Another piece of advice is to be sure that your messaging and branding is consistent throughout all of your online platforms.  From Linked In to your Website, be consistent.  If your twitter profile states that you’re a journalist but your Linked In account says that you’re a real estate adviser, your audience will be confused.
